There are many astronomy clubs in Canada that bring together all those interested in astronomy. Club members often have "star parties" or public observing sessions with their telescopes, and they can help newcomers with tips about purchasing and using telescopes and related equipment. All clubs welcome enquiries from those interested in their activities, and many of them will have special activities during IYA2009.

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) includes 29 clubs in Canada. Their web site lists them all.

 

The Fédération des Astronomes Amateurs du Québec comprises 48 affiliated clubs. Here is a link to all of them.
